~ RACES ~ Warcraft has a specific set of races and classes that are not necessarily compatible with the NWN game. There are three type of Races; Playable, Restricted and Non-playable.
PLAYABLE - Anyone can play this race without DM intervention.
RESTRICTED - These races are playable but require the player to speak to a DM. It should be noted that the restricted races have bonuses to playing them, but also have drawbacks. Read the different racial statues and learn what you need to know.
NON-PLAYABLE - These races do not fit in the Warcraft world and are unable to be played by anyone.
Because of this there have to be some rules and regulations regarding both Races and Classes.
~ HUMANS ~
Humans (Playable Race)
APPERANCE: Humans come from a variety of backgrounds. Their apperance and stature vary greatly, from tall to short, white to black. The Humans of Lordaeron are the most common of the races. They are found throughout Lordaeron and have many professions. They can be found throughout the realm serving both the light and the dark forces.
Humans are among the young youngest races on Azeroth, but they make up for it by being the most populous. With life spans generally shorter than the other races, humans seem to strive all the harder to achieve great heights in empire building, exploration, and magical study. This aggressive and inquisitive nature leads the various human nations to become quite active and influential in the world. Human kingdoms have suffered greatly in the course of the two wars, but are currently rebuilding and growing once again. Humans value virtue and honour, though they also pursue interests in power and wealth. After battling the forces of darkness for generations, humans tend to use a warrior's appraoch to diplomacy - attack first, ask questions later. Aided by belief in the mystical philosophy of the Holy Light, they have fought the hardest and endured the most during the wars agains the Horde and the Burning Legion. Despite all their tragedy, humans remain hardy and brave - thoroughly commited to building a strong society wherever they choose to call home.
~ ELVES ~
SILVERMOON ELVES (HIGH ELVES - Playable Race)
APPERANCE: The High Elves are typically slimmer than the more muscular humans and they have fair hair and skin, with brilliantly coloured eyes. They have no facial or body hair, prefer comfortable clothes, and possess unearthly grace. Many other races find them hauntingly beautiful. NIGHT ELVES (Restricted Playable Race)
APPERANCE: Night Elves are far more muscular than humans and high elves, though their forms are lithe and graceful rather than heavyset. In addition to their large stature, they also appear somewhat more feral than their high elf cousins. Their skin runs in hues of violet to shadowy purple, and their hair can range from amber to deep blues and greens. Night elves' eyes have no pupils, and most glow silver especially in moonlight. A night elf's ears are even more pronounced than a high elf's, often tapering to a point up to a foot long. Their clothes reflect their ties to nature, usually being adorned with leaf or animal motifs.
HALF ELVES (Playable Race)
Half-elves are a mix of human and high elf. High elves are not prolific to begin with, and coupling with another race is not looked upon with favor. As a result, half-elves are rare. Few spend much time among their high elf cousins, who look upon them with disdain. Even among humans, half-elves do not recieve much acceptance. Many humans are envious of the half-elve's extended life span and mistrustful of the simple fact that they are different. Born of two cultures but fully accepted in neither, most half-elves develop a grim outlook on life. Some struggle against prejudice to gain acceptance among high elves and/or humans, while others spurn their heritage and strike out on their own. Half Elves are the result of a Human and Elven union. Usually this does not happen but there are isolated incidents that have created Half Elves. Because the Elves of Silvermoon respect all life, Half Elves are allowed in their society, though they are not permited to hold positions of power.
APPERANCE: Half-elves have much the same build as humans. Like their high elf parents, they tend to have fair skin and hair and brilliantly (usually blue or green) coloured eyes. They are more heavily built than purebred high-elves.
The Elves of Quel ' Thalas are a proud race. They have a rich culture that reaches back to the near beginning of the world. With their strong ties in magic and nature the Elves of Silvermoon where a saving force in the old wars. Now, with peace spreading through the lands of Lordaeron, the Elders of Silvermoon are hesitant to remain within the Alliance. Content to live in their home land of Qual ' Thalas, the Elves are becoming more and more withdrawn from the affairs of man.
The reclusive Night Elves were the first race to awaken in the World of Warcraft. These shadowy, immortal beings were the first to study magic and let it loose throughout the world nearly ten thousand years before Warcraft I. The Night Elves' reckless use of magic drew the Burning Legion into the world and led to a catastrophic war between the two titanic races. The Night Elves barely managed to banish the Legion from the world, but their wondrous homeland was shattered and drowned by the sea. Until recently, the Night Elves closed themselves off from the rest of the world and remained hidden atop their holy mountain of Hyjal for many thousands of years. The Legion's invasion brought the Night Elves out of their long period of slumber. They now have renewed interest in shaping the world, and for the first time are allying themselves with other races to insure the continued survival of Azeroth. As a race, Night Elves are typically honorable and just, but they are very distrusting of the 'lesser races' of the world. They are nocturnal by nature and their shadowy powers often elicit the same distrust that they have for their mortal neighbors.
~ DWARVES ~
DWARVES (Playable Race)
APPERANCE: Dwarves stand just 4 to 41/2 feet tall, but are broad and compactly built, almost as wide as they are tall. Dwarven skin varies from deep tan to light brown, and their hair is black, grey, or brown. Dwarven men value their beards highly.
The stoic dwarves of Ironforge are an ancient race of robust humanoids who live beneath the snow-capped mountains of Khaz Modan. The Dwarves have always been fast allies with the Humans, and they revel in the prospects of battle and storytelling alike. In past ages, the Dwarves rarely left the safety of their mountain fortresses. However, whenever the call to battle sounded, they rose up to defend their friends and allies with unmatched courage and valor. Due to a recent discovery that uncovered fragments of their ancient origins, the Dwarves have undergone a remarkable transformation. The discovery convinced the Dwarves that the mighty Titans created them from stone when the world was young. They feel that their destiny is now to search the world over for more signs and proof of their enchanted heritage and to rediscover the Titans' hidden legacies. To this end, the Dwarves have sent out their Prospectors to all ends of the world in the hopes of discovering new insight into their shrouded past. These journeys led to Dwarven excavation sites all over the known world, some of which serve as outposts and some of which serve as potential hunting grounds for enemies of the Dwarven race.
~ THE ORC RACES ~
ORCS (Restricted Playable Race)
APPERANCE: Male orcs average almost 7 feet tall and weigh from 250 - 300 pounds, with women typically a half foot shorter. Their skin ranges from light green to greyish brown, and their hair is coarse and usually black or brown, greying with age. Large ears, flattened noses, and a large mouth full of sharp teeth with jutting lower canines comprise their most prominent features. Orcs wear a variety of clothing styles, from furs and hides in some clans to heavy metal armour in others. Orcs are a relatively short-lived people, reaching maturity in about 18 years and rarely living longer than 75 years.
HALF ORCS (Restricted Playable Race)
The existence of half-orcs is something both humans and orcs would prefer to ignore. In fact, the parent races commonly ignore half-orcs whenever they have the opportunity. Unlike half-elves, who prefer to become loners rather than face prejudice, half-orcs often become highly visible and vocal members of their parent society. Almost by necessity, they present their half-breed circumstance as a defiant badge of honor. They are bround and fearless - indeed, they will take risks that other races would consider too dangerous in an effort to prove themselves the equal of the "pure" races.
APPERANCE: Half-orcs stand 6 1/2 feet in height on average, and weigh from 200 to 250lbs. Males are noticeably taller and heavier than females. Their skin ranges from light green to greyish brown, and their hair is coarse like an orc's, ranging from brown to black in colour. The orc liniage is unmistakable, but not as pronounced as a purebred orc - the ears are not quite as large, the nose not as piggish, and the tusks jut far less. Half-orcs are longer lived than their orc parents, with life spans equivalent to a human's.
The savage, green-skinned Orcs are one of the most prolific races of Azeroth. They are commonly believed to be brutal and mindless, possessing no humanity or empathy for other races. Born on the hellish world of Draenor, the Orcs were brought into the kingdom of Stormwind through the dimensional gateway known as the Dark Portal and forced to wage war on the Humans. Although few are aware of their history, the Orcs once cultivated a noble, Shamanistic society on the world of Draenor. Tragically, the proud Orc clans were corrupted by the Burning Legion and used as pawns in the Legion's invasion of Azeroth. Most of the Orcs in Lordaeron have been rounded up and placed in the Internment Camps. There are a few clans of Orcs that roam the southern lands of Lordaeron and avoid the Alliance forces. However these groups are small and not organized.
~ MINOR RACES ~
GNOMES (Playable Race)
APPERANCE: Gnomes stand 3 to 31/2 feet tall, with skin that ranges from dark tan to woody brown. Their hair is fair, and their eyes are often some shade of blue. Gnomes generally wear eath tones, but decorate their clothes intricately. Males favor carefully-trimmed beards.
The eccentric, often-brilliant Gnomes are one of the most peculiar races of the world. With their obsession for developing radical new technologies and constructing marvels of mind-bending engineering, it's a wonder that any Gnomes have survived to proliferate. Thriving within the wondrous techno-city of Gnomeregan, the Gnomes shared the resources of the forested Dun Morogh Peaks with their Dwarven cousins. Though the dwarves of Ironforge also have a propensity for technology and engineering - it is the gnomes who provide the critical, visionary designs for most of the Dwarves' weapons and steam vehicles.
GOBLINS
(Halflings - Restricted Playable Race)
Goblins are crafty and shrewd small humanoids with an overwhelming interest in commerce and a strong curiosity about all things mechanical. Goblin society is a fragmented thing at best, defined chiefly by commerce and trade. The ultimate schemers and con artists, goblins are always in search of a better deal. Goblins are tenacious fighters. They attack from range with crossbows and use maces when the fighting gets in close. When attacked in their warrens, they fight with tools as well. They have a good grasp of tactics and strategy, and are masters of sieges. Their love of large machines makes them ideal for attacking fortifications.
They are trisksters and con artists to the exptreme. Their mission in the world is to create incredible new inventions, accrue the resulting wealth, and cause as much subtle mischief as possible along the way.
APPERANCE: Goblins are slight and wiry, averaging 3 feet in height and weighing between 30 and 50 pounds. They have large noses and ears and green skin. Their long arms and fingers are very useful for reaching into the back of some machine they are currently working on. They tend to wear leather clothing, often cut into aprons to protect against caustic fluids.
TROLLS (Restricted Playable Race)
Jungle trolls are a superstitious creatures who revel in the hunt and the rigors of personal combat. In ancient times, they reigned over the lands south of the Redridge Mountains of Stormwind. Though their glorious kingdoms fell to ruin long ago, they seek to reclaim their lost majestry. Equipped with voodoo magics and unparalleled combat skills, these trolls have been relentless in their efforts to regain their jungle homeland.
APPERANCE: Trolls are tall, wiry, and muscular. Yellow eyes gleam in a sharp-featured face with pointed ears and a blade-like nose. The creature is hard to see amid the tropical fliage, for its green skin blends well with its surroundings.
TAUREN (Restricted Playable Race)
APPERANCE: Tauren are very large and muscular and terrifically strong, but they lack much fine coordination. Their bodies are covered in a shaggy coat of hair that varies greatly depending on the idividual's family line. Hair can range in colour from black to brown to white, with even some multicoloured pelts. Their eyes are generally black or brown.
A number of trade princes rule over the various goblin holdings around the world. Though the trade princes all live in the goblin island city of Undermine, far from Kalimdor, they each control their own private armies and trade fleets. In turn, each controls vast rings of trade, mining, deforestation, slave rings, and poaching.
The Tauren are huge, bestial creatures who live in the grassy, open barrens of central Kalimdor. They live to serve nature and maintain the balance between the wild things of the land and the restless spirit of the elements. Despite their enormous size and brute strength, the remarkably peaceful Tauren cultivate a quiet, tribal society. However, when roused by conflict, Tauren are implacable enemies who will use every ounce of their strength to smash their enemies under hoof. Under the leadership of their ancient chief, Cairne Bloodhoof, the Tauren allied themselves with the Orcs during the invasion of the Burning Legion. The two races have remained steadfast allies ever since. Like the Orcs, the Tauren struggle to retain their sense of tradition and noble identity.
